Synthetic rubber

Synthetic rubber

Synthetic rubber is a human-made plastic that functions as an elastic substance. An elastic substance is a material that has the mechanical property of being able to withstand pressure to change shape more than most other materials and still restore its original shape. Synthetic rubber is used to replace natural rubber in many applications, where its superior properties come into play.

WHAT IS SBR RUBBER - SBR 1502 AND SBR1712 RUBBER

WHAT IS SBR RUBBER - SBR 1502 AND SBR1712 RUBBER

1. WHAT IS SBR RUBBER - What is SBR rubber? It is styrene-butadiene rubber that is the base material for the majority of synthetic rubbers. It is abbreviated as SBR, derived from the English phrase Styrene Butadiene Rubber. - SBR rubber has been imported and distributed in Vietnam by Viet Trung - 0903 123 357 for many years. If you are in need of SBR rubber, please contact us for the best quote. 2. HISTORY OF SBR RUBBER DEVELOPMENT - SBR rubber was successfully synthesized for the first time by German chemist Walter Bock in 1929 by emulsion polymerization of these two materials. It was also the first synthetic rubber capable of being used on a commercial economic scale. - Today, SBR is a popular synthetic rubber and is used in the production of tubes, tires and other rubber items. Typical SBR contains 23.5% styrene and 76.5% butadiene. With higher styrene content, this rubber becomes a thermoplastic, but still retains elasticity. - In industrial production, the emulsion for polymerization is kept at a temperature of 5 °C, so it is called cold polymerization. Hot polymerization at a temperature of about 50 °C creates branch chains, which reduces the flexibility of the rubber. After polymerization, SBR remains in liquid form and becomes a solid. 3. MOLECULAR STRUCTURE OF SBR RUBBER - SBR rubber It is a copolymer from butadiene and styrene, with the formula -(-CH2-CH=CH-CH2-CH(C6H5)-CH2-)-n 4. SBR RUBBER TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS - Specific gravity: 1.12 to 1.4 g/cm3 - Hardness: 65+/-5 to 70+/-5 shore A - Tensile strength: 8 to 11 Mpa - Operating temperature: -40 °C (-22 °F) - 70 °C (158 °F) - Maximum pressure (bar): 10 Bar - Available colors: White, Black, Red 5. SBR RUBBER PROPERTIES - SBR rubber offers little resistance to: Oil & Chemicals - SBR rubber must be combined with special additives to be resistant to: Ozone, Sunlight and heat. - SBR rubber has better abrasion than natural rubber, but has low tensile strength. - NBR rubber without filler has very low tensile strength and does not meet usage requirements. Therefore, a large amount of fortifying filler must be included. Especially black carbon (this type of black carbon has been specifically selected for the rubber industry such as HAF, SAF, EPC...) - SBR can easily replace natural rubber in many applications with significant cost savings. Resilience is almost the same as natural rubber. - The vulcanization speed of NBR rubber is slower than that of natural rubber - The rubber's flexibility is low, so it is difficult to fill the mold. The plasticity can only be increased very little with naphthanlene oil or turpentine. - Styrene-Butadiene rubber is inferior to natural rubber in terms of crack resistance and low heat resistance, while its cracking resistance is high. - With NBR rubber at a temperature of 100 degrees Celsius, it will lose 60% of its crack resistance. - At temperatures above 94 degrees Celsius, vulcanization will lose 2/3 of its strength and about 30% of its elongation. - High degree of cracking (aging due to oxygen and ozone and impact) 6. APPLICATION & ENVIRONMENT OF USING SBR RUBBER - SBR rubber has good stability in organic and inorganic acid environments as well as bases or water and alcohol. However, its stability is poor towards solvents such as aliphatic compounds, aromatic compounds and chlorinated hydrocarbons, particularly in mineral oils, greases or gasoline. - As for the effects of weather, it is more resistant than natural rubber, but worse than chloroprene rubber (CR) and ethyl propylene diene monomer rubber (EPDM). The temperature range that SBR applications can withstand is approximately - 40 °C to +70 °C. - SBR rubber makes a popular flange gasket material for hot or cold water, air and steam (not to exceed 100 PSI). - Today, SBR is a popular synthetic rubber and is used in the production of tubes, tires and many other rubber products.
